Esri UK Announces GIS Award Winners 2011
Aylesbury, May 19th 2011 – Esri UK, the country’s leading provider of geographic information systems (GIS) technology, has announced its GIS Vision Award winners for 2011. The winners were announced at Esri UK’s Annual Conference, which attracted over 500 public and private sector professionals to the two day event on 16th and 17th May.
“We’re delighted to announce the following winners, who have successfully demonstrated innovative and visionary implementations of GIS, showcasing clear ROI and operational benefits for both businesses and organisations,” commented Richard Waite, Managing Director for Esri UK.
Central Government Award
Winner: Transport for London – Traffic Directorate Data Service; “a highly valued business asset, giving Transport for London’s Directorate the ability to quickly respond to a constantly changing operational environment.”
Highly Commended: British Geological Survey for iGeologyLocal Government Award
Winner: Bristol City Council – Know Your Place; “a new online way of learning and sharing information about historic Bristol, giving citizens online access to Bristol’s Historic Environment Records, aiding planning decisions while helping to drive local regeneration strategies.”
Highly commended: Kent County Council for Children’s Centre ServicesDefence, National Security & Public Safety
Winner: Joint Aeronautical and Geospatial Organisation – DATAMAN; “a powerful initiative delivering common geospatial intelligence services on demand to commanders, staff and solders in Afghanistan including colleagues in the Afghan National Army and Police, a capability using geography to deliver greater stability and security in a highly challenging environment.”Private Sector Award
Winner: The GeoInformation Group – UK Map; “a unique, 1:1,000 scale mapping specification with a high level of feature details, 3D components for buildings, land use and points of interest, along with a retail and address database.”
