• New National Solar Service Delivers Perfect Properties for Solar Panels

The GeoInformation Group announces the release of its latest solar mapping service designed to deliver address lists of properties across the country that are suitable for solar panel installations.

This service maps and identifies those properties that are south facing, have a roof capable of accommodating a solar panel array and are free from nearby obstructions.

The on-demand service enables installers, energy companies, housing associations, local authorities and others to receive thousands of addresses of suitably selected properties for their area of interest, such as a postcode area, city or county.

Supplied as a standard spreadsheet along with addresses and total annual solar radiation values (kWh/m2) the service delivers a straightforward, yet fully functioning, database.

What makes this service so unique is that each property is individually assessed using some of the latest aerial photography for the UK in conjunction with a new national solar model developed by The GeoInformation Group. This benefits those using the service by delivering reliable information on suitable addresses reducing marketing and sales costs and enabling a more accurate measurement of solar potential in their area.

“We have undertaken considerable investment in our new service by speaking to suppliers to determine exactly what information they require. We then developed a UK-wide service based on our 20 years experience of creating high quality environmental systems that targets the best properties and delivers this at a rate and price the market requires,” comments Dr Alun Jones, Commercial Director of The GeoInformation Group.

Underpinning this service is a new solar model providing a solar value that incorporates a national terrain model, 3D buildings and vegetation data. The solar model incorporates greater detail, accounting for the height of buildings and vegetation that can impact on the solar radiation values commonly measured for UK roof surfaces.

The GeoInformation Group also offers additional data on the financial costs and FiT returns from investments in solar technology. These data, including panel investment costs, income from FiT, energy savings, etc, can be provided on a per property basis or aggregated up to postcode or city levels.
