Land Use Mapping

Runnymede Council

Problem:

Runnymede’s Planning Policy and Implementation section needed to gather land use information to support the Local Development Framework (LDF).  This portfolio of documents would replace the current Local Plan so there needed to be sound evidence to support the policies and proposals and enable effective monitoring and review.

Solution:

The GeoInformation Group’s land use database helped to identify different categories of open land throughout the borough to establish how much of the non urban land could be considered to be in agricultural use.  This provided a detailed picture of the land use that enabled Runnymede Council to concentrate their efforts on gathering further information in certain key areas.

Benefits

The existence of the land use data gave the council an immediate GIS starting point from which they can improve or refine as necessary.
