Welcome
So much has happened here at UKMap since you last contacted us.
We thought you might like to hear about all the new developments, applications and users so decided to send you this one-off email. We hope you will find something of interest below.
New Service
UKMap now available as a web mapping service.

Thanks to our partnership with Europa Technologies UKMap has been styled into a simple, single map layer for rapid deployment across organisations and use by web developers. This is already powering improved services at London’s largest private Taxi company, Addison Lee.

New Changes Bring New Data
The following new updates and additions have been included within UKMap:
- Updates from the Summer 2011 Riots
- Olympic Park Mapping
- Postcode and Post town now added to the address layer
- Improved retail classification
- Updated retail and shopping centre data
New Pricing Options
In line with continually improving our value we have a new range of pricing options including web use and individual seat use. Our web service has also led us to look at our developer licences for the consumption of UKMap by a new community of web developers.
Our new pricing also offers users a “pick and mix” approach to using only those data they require from the UKMap suite, so some find the retail and base layers of particular interest, others need trees and terrain. There are pricing options to suit all needs – ask for a quote.

Something that has been perhaps our biggest secret is some of our new users. So without too much fanfare here are a selection:
- Transport for London
- Metropolitan Police
- Olympic Development Agency
- London Borough of Tower Hamlets
- Hutchinson 3
- UK Broadband
- Arup
- London Fire
- Addison Lee
- Forestry Commission
As you can see they span a wide range of market sectors, proving just how versatile UKMap is.
New UKMap Web Map Tile Service
The UKMap Web Map Tile Service delivers a geo-referenced image version of UKMap over the internet.
The service delivers a standard version (or look) of the UKMap data and can be used in conjunction with the GIS version of UKMap.
The service converts the standard UKMap delivery format into a pre-rendered set of map tiles, ready for rapid deployment on the web.
Tile sets are compatible with a number of popular map APIs including OpenLayers, OS OpenSpace®, ESRI JavaScript API, Oracle MapViewer and Microsoft Bing Maps. UKMap has developed a default cartographic style based on UKMap guidelines ,with customised styling, designed to maximise the rich content of UKMap.
Rapid Web/Mobile Deployment
There is a considerable time, cost and effort in converting, preparing, styling and deploying any data set for the web. The UKMap service removes this burden and bridges the gap between raw data delivery and deployment on the web.
The custom rendered tile set is delivered either as a fully fledged web map service or as a set of image files that are simply copied to a web server. Then, by directing an API to the location of the tile set, web-based mapping applications can be up-and-running in next to no time. Tile based maps are also an effective gateway to mobile deployment.

High Quality, On-screen Cartography
Our rendering system produces beautiful maps specifically designed for deployment on the web and mobile devices. Our standard style features attractive base map cartography whilst avoiding the use of bright colours, which are reserved for your map pins, overlays and other foreground graphics. Particular attention has been given to efficient text labelling across all zoom levels.
As for the Future…
We are continually busy here at UKMap HQ looking at new areas to map and new features to add and this is in addition to the huge task of keeping UKMap up to date.
More updates are on their way from new photography we have captured, more shopping centres, the addition of Boris Bike stops and further development around our web hosted solution all point to a vibrant and busy future for UKMap.
If you would like to know more please do get in touch again it would be great to hear from you.
