New Shed Base Mapping

A unique, new database identifying the location of sheds and other outbuildings throughout Greater London is now available from The GeoInformation® Group, leading supplier of geospatial data and services.
The release of the UKMap® Sheds Base Map coincides with the recent initiative set up by the Government to tackle the problem of “Beds in Sheds” by offering the ideal mapping solution for those who need to accurately identify and act on illegal dwellings.
The database, derived from UKMap’s large scale mapping suite, will especially help local authorities that do not have the resources or time to survey outbuildings throughout their borough. Best used at a 1:1,000 scale this detailed base map plots the location and floor area information of each outbuilding with the additional option to link them to the client’s address gazetteer. These data can also be used in conjunction with Ordnance Survey mapping.

“Our solution is extremely timely for many local authorities who just don’t have the capacity to collect and map back garden developments”, says Alun Jones, Managing Director of The GeoInformation Group. “We know how important it is for the maps we provide to be as accurate as possible. Outbuildings are always changing and as part of the UKMap programme we are committed to regularly maintaining and updating the entire database to ensure that the client is using the most up to date information available”.
The data is currently available for Greater London boroughs however requests for other areas throughout the UK should be directed to The GeoInformation Group. Users can either opt to receive a new UKMap Shed Base Map or have the shed locations added to their existing mapping.
